Prep Volleyball: Majettes win opener, fall in semis

It’s deja vu for the Minot High volleyball team, which again will see its season come down to a state-qualifying match against Bismarck Legacy at the WDA Tournament

The Majettes opened the tournament with a 4-set victory over Mandan, 25-22, 25-17, 23-25, 25-13, to advance to the semifinal round, where they found themselves on the wrong side of a four-set match against Jamestown, 20-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-23.

The loss drops second-seeded Minot High into a must-win match against the No. 4 Sabers on Saturday. Last season, the Majettes failed to qualify for the state tournament as the No. 3 seed after losing a five-set match against the Sabers in a state-qualifier.

In the quarterfinal round against Mandan, Kynsli Gillmore led Minot High with 18 kills and also provided 19 digs and 1.5 blocks. Brooke Bedell added 11 kills and Mackenzie Dufner had 38 assists.

Gillmore again led the offense against Jamestown, racking up 14 kills. Bedell and Everette Deschamp joined her in double figures with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

Dufner finished with 32 assists.

Camdyn Varty led the defense with 25 digs.

The Majettes didn’t have an answer for Lucy Falk, who finished with a match-high 24 kills and also recorded a pair of blocks and 15 digs

The Blue Jays will play Bismarck Century in the championship match. Both Jamestown and Century have qualified for the state tournament.

Bismarck High and Dickinson will play in the other state-qualifying match.

Starting at $2.99/week.
