Prep Baseball: Sentinels, Magicians semifinal matchup postponed

The Minot High and Minot North baseball teams will have to wait another day before squaring off for both a spot in the WDA Tournament title game as well as a berth in the state tournament after inclement weather postponed their semifinal matchup. They will play on Saturday, May 23, at 1:30 p.m.

The Sentinels advanced to the semifinal round by winning a pitcher’s duel against seventh-seeded Williston in the quarterfinals. Brody Mueller allowed just one run on four hits, striking out 13 for a complete-game victory for Minot North, which knocked off Williston, 3-1, on Thursday, May 21. Mueller threw 109 pitches. He struck out the side in the second and fourth innings.

Williston’s pitching staff of Dylan Pittsley, Kallon DeLorme and Grayden Bowles combined to allow three runs – one earned – on five hits.

Minot North scored all three of its runs in the third inning. An error by the Coyotes at third allowed Mueller to reach base safely. He came around to score on an RBI triple off the bat of Gannon Hedberg. Logan Dixon drove in Hedberg with an RBI single to right. Jace Price capped off the scoring with a single to center.

Eden Mortenson homered to lead off the sixth for Williston.

The Magicians won the nightcap with a 9-6 victory over third-seeded Bismarck High to set up the showdown between the two Minot programs. Drew Jordan went 2-for-3 with a triple, double, three RBIs and a run scored.

Minot High broke a 3-3 tie with four runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Oliver Deschamp gave the Magicians a 4-3 lead with an RBI single to center, scoring Cole Deaver. Back-to-back errors by the Demons led to three more runs in the inning.

Jordan doubled home Deaver and Owen Sundahl in the sixth for a 9-3 lead.

Bismarck High made one final charge in the seventh. Drew Taylor and Garett Randolph led off the inning with a single and Gage Gronberg plated them both with a double to left.

Minot High reliever Brody Johnson got the next two outs before yielding three consecutive walks, the last one coming with the bases loaded. The Magicians brought in Carter Bush to get the last out with the bases loaded. With Aidan Rakowski at the plate serving as the game- winning run for Williston, Bush got him to fly out to left to end the game.

Starting at $2.99/week.
