Girls Soccer: Majettes wallop Williston with 11-goal barrage
Kynsli Gillmore is used to preventing goals, not scoring them.
But the Minot High goalkeeper got the opportunity to contribute to the offense and she took advantage. Gillmore netted a goal in the 56th minute and assisted on another as the Majettes put up a season-high in goals in an 11-0 victory over Williston on Thursday, May 21.
Gillmore was one of eight goal scorers for the Majettes (12-2-1 overall, 12-2-1 WDA). Kaylee Jackson netted four, all in the opening 30 minutes. Jackson scored four of Minot High’s first five goals. She found the back of the net in the 6th, 12th, 14th and 30th minutes. Jackson leads the team with 14 goals.
Jayva McKibben scored one of the other two first-half goals for the Majettes, scoring in the 12th minute off an assist from her sister Anistyn McKibben. Jayva McKibben registered three assists for a four-point game. Aleah Gibbons gave the Majettes a 6-0 lead heading into the break with a goal in the 33rd minute.
Gillmore played the first half in net, recording two saves, before changing uniforms and playing offense in the second half. Following goals from Anistyn McKibben and MaKella Brekke, Gillmore scored hers and then assisted on Cam Varty’s tally in the 59th minute. Ella Stewart made it 11-0 in the 67th minute with her first goal of the year.
Ayla Gilstad played the final 40 minutes in net for the Majettes, but didn’t face a shot from the Coyotes. Jenna Heck finished with 15 saves for Williston (2-14-2, 0-14-1), as Minot High outshot the Coyotes 26-2.
Minot High faces West Fargo Sheyenne in the state quarterfinals on Thursday, May 28, at 6:45 p.m. at Sanford Sports Complex.
