Beavers break triple-digits in home debut

Nathan beitler/MDN Beavers’ redshirt sophomore guard Kiku Parker Jr. drives the ball to the hoop in their home game against the Bismarck State College Mystics on Wednesday night, Nov. 19.

The Minot State Beavers men’s basketball team took down the Bismarck State College Mystics 105-72 with their first triple-digit victory of the 2025 season in their home opener at the MSU Dome on Wednesday night, Nov. 19.

The Beavers dominated on both sides of the ball on Wednesday night. The Beavers were able to take swift action in the first half of the game, starting off with the first score of the night. The Beavers and the Mystics stayed neck and neck through the first few minutes of the game. The Mystics took their first lead of the night with 15 minutes 39 seconds left in the first half, but a quick three-point response by junior guard Sean De Kovachich gave the Beavers their lead back at 16-14. From that point on, the Beavers grew their lead in the first quarter, often with more than a double digit lead over the Mystics. The Beavers’ multiple unanswered scoring runs and defensive moves kept the Mystics from keeping up. The half ended with two successful free throws by Mystic junior Houston Davis. The score heading into the second half was 56-33 with the Beavers leading.

The second half was much the same as the first with the Beavers running up the score with several unanswered scoring streaks. The Mystics tried their best to keep up, but were ultimately overwhelmed by the Beavers, giving the Beavers their first triple-digit win of the season with a final score of 105-72.

Five players dominated most of the play time for the Beavers in their home opener, with junior guard Darik Dissette earning the most play time, staying on the court for more than half the game, totalling 28 minutes of play. Although Dissette scored the most field goals of the team, scoring seven out of his twelve attempts, redshirt junior Deuce Benjamin earned the most points for the Beaver with 21 on his six scored field goals out of 12.

The Beavers improved on their season record to 2-1. The Beavers will be back on the road during their next game this Friday, Nov. 21, against Montana State University Billings at 4 Bears Casino in New Town.
