Minot JV medals in trap shooting tourney

The Minot High School junior varsity team took home third place in the Class 3A North Dakota Trap Shooting State Tournament over the weekend.

Minot High freshman Sylas Horton was the highest scorer for the JV team during the tournament this weekend. Horton tied for eighth place overall in the JV trap high gun event. He had a total score of 89 with a reverse run of 17. Horton was also able to shoot his first 25 straight during the competition.

He was one of five Minot High participants to achieve a straight 25 shots during the competition. Senior Grant Thorson was also able to achieve a 25 straight for the JV team on Sunday during his very last round. It is his first official 25 since he started competing.

Kyle Lentz and Isak Nelson also achieved their first 25 straight during the tournament for Minot High’s varsity team. Nelson was the highest scorer for Minot High and the varsity team with an overall score of 93 and a reverse run of nine to tie for 44th. Lentz tied for 131st in the varsity event with an overall score of 83 and a reverse run of ten.

Grady Mostad was the fifth shooter for Minot High to shoot a straight 25. The seventh grader took home third place in the novice trap high gun event with an overall score of 87 and a reverse run of 36.

The Minot High JV team ended the tournament with an overall score of 432. Mandan High School took second in the event with a score of 435 and Rugby High School took home first with a score of 443.

Williston High School was the Class 3A overall winner of the tournament with a team total of 493.

The tournament took place over the June 13 – June 15 weekend. Each class competed on their own day, with Class 3A competing last on Sunday, June 15.
