The Minot Metros took home one win and one loss in Wednesday night’s double-header against the Velva 39ers.

The first game of the evening started with the Metros’ No. 28, Kayden Danielson on the pitcher’s mound. No runs were allowed during the top of the first.

The first inning did not see much progress for the Metros’ either, with two players striking out and another getting thrown out trying to steal second.

The Metros kept up their defenses in the second inning, ending the top with a pop fly to Metros No. 21, Ty Iverson at shortstop. Offensively, the Metros shot out ahead, scoring three runs including a 2-RBI double by third baseman No. 12, Gavin King.

The Metros were able to hold firm and carry their momentum into the fourth, once again keeping the 39ers at zero runs and earning an additional run themselves. First baseman TJ Hjelstad hit a single into center field to bring home the Metros’ designated hitter, Brock Thompson. The score was 4-0 for the Metros at the end of the fourth.

After grabbing two outs in the top of the fifth, Danielson was switched off the pitcher’s mound for No. 22, Landyn McGhee. Danielson and McGhee ended the top of the inning without the 39ers scoring a single run.

The Metros continued to widen the gap through the fifth, scoring three additional runs. The first came from third baseman Gavin King whose at bat ended being thrown out at first with catcher Levi Balas able to run safely home. Second baseman Jace Price stole home for the team’s second run of the inning. He did so after hitting a triple deep into right field. Thompson scored the last run of the inning when a dropped ball at first failed to get McGhee out. The inning ended with a score of 7-0 for the Metros.

The 39ers were unable to come back from the Metros’ wide lead, ending the first game after the top of the seventh with a score of 7-1 for the Metros.

The Metros looked to try and carry their momentum into the second game of the evening, and the first inning seemed to show it. Left fielder Owen Sundahl stole home for the first run of the game and Logan Dixon stole home for the second. The last run of the inning came after Brody Johnson was walked with bases loaded to bring home center fielder Remington Anderson to end the inning at 3-0 for the Metros.

Those were the first and only runs scored by the Metros in the second game. The 39ers scored their first run of the game in the top of the second inning. They scored another two in the fourth to tie the game, and scored their last run in the sixth. The Metros were unable to score during the lest five innings of the game, leaving the score at 4-3 for the 39ers at the end of the sixth.
