MSU women’s basketball adds Sterkel as assistant coach

New Minot State University (MSU) women’s basketball coach Ryan Clark is preparing for his debut season with the Beavers by adding a talented assistant coach to his team on the bench.

Coach Clark is pleased to introduce Emma Sterkel, a former star player for NCAA Division II Regis, Colorado, and NAIA powerhouse Briar Cliff, Iowa, who joined the Beaver staff earlier this month.

“I am very excited to have Emma Sterkel join our staff,” Clark said. “She is hard-working, passionate and will bring a lot of energy on a daily basis. She will be a great addition to our staff and program. Welcome to Minot, Emma!”

Sterkel most recently spent a season as an assistant coach at Chadron State, Nebraska, with the NCAA D-II Eagles after serving as a graduate assistant coach at Briar Cliff where she earned Master’s degrees in both Management Leadership and Sports Management.

While at Briar Cliff, Sterkel served both as an assistant for the varsity program and as head coach for the Charger junior varsity team after playing one season for the Chargers and helping lead them to the 2021-22 NAIA National Tournament.

A 2021 graduate of Regis with a degree in Psychology, Sterkel was a two-time team captain and ranks 15th all-time in 3-pointers made with 121 in her 4-year career as a Ranger.

During five seasons as a player on the hardwood, she averaged 5.9 points per game and shot 32.8 percent from 3-point range while also earning RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll honors off the court.

Sterkel also is a member of the WBCA and has coached youth travel AAU teams.

Starting at $2.99/week.
