Pair of third-place finishes for Minot High at home meet

Minot High track and field teams hosted Bismarck High, Bismarck Century, Minot North and Turtle Mountain Community schools for running, jumping and throwing at the Duane Carlson Stadium on Saturday. Hurdles, relays and triple jump are areas of strength for the Minot High boys and girls track and field teams. Both the Minot High boys and the girls teams placed third with the Majettes garnering 163 points while the boys ended the meet with 98.5 points.

Bismarck High won the team competition with 214 points while cross-town rival Century was second with 173. The boys side saw Century flip the script with 226 points to win, while Bismarck High finished second with 210.5 points.

Relays were an area of strength for the Minot High girls team, with the Majettes placing first and third in the 4×100 relay. Minot – A, comprised of sophomore Monica Boakye, senior Makayla Whitfield, sophomore Eve Knutson and senior Maicee Burke, recorded a top time of 51.69 while Minot – B (junior Haleigh Carr, senior Allie Johnson, freshman Gracyn and senior Olivia Hanson) placed third with a time of 55.51 for the event.

The same members of Minot – A also were first in the 4×200 with a time of 1:51.22 while Minot – B had senior Nia Roninson-Martinez joined Carr, Hanson and Johnson for second with a time of 1:56.11 for the event.

In the 4×800 relay, Minot – A (senior Mandy Schmidt, junior Nicole Couture, eighth grader Haylee Jackson and senior Julie Folk) were second with a time of 11:05.31 to Century – A who won the event with a time of 10:30.10 in a dominant performance.

Junior Haley Conklin added first place finishes to the team tally with a 17.25 second top mark in the 100 meter hurdles and 52.99 seconds in the 300 meter hurdles, with Boakye placing third and freshman Leighton Johnson adding fourth in the 100 meters. Leighton Johnson also placed second in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 55.25 seconds.

Conklin added a first place in the triple jump clearing 35-4 to take the top spot. She also added a seventh place finish in the long jump at 15-1 just behind fellow junior Haleigh Carr in sixth with a 15-4 jump.

Minot High junior Lincoln Brooks finished in first place for the boys in the high jump with a 6-2 leap and the Minot – A team of juniors Kaden Kraft, Aaron Prestwich, senior Harrison Stewart and junior Vincent Pecoraro ran the fastest time in the 4×200 relay with a time of 1:33.64 seconds.

Prestwich and Pecoraro were fifth and sixth in the 100 meters as well. Prestwich also added an eighth place finish in the 200 meters for team points.

The Magi had Stewert in second place followed by juniors Nathan Wistisen, Jacob Jackson, Dylan Jackson, David Amsbury and Cameron Hummel in third through seventh consecutively in the 400 meters.

For the girls 100 meters, Whitfield was second for the Majettes with a time of 12.85 while Boakye was fifth with a time of 13.11 seconds.

Sophomore Paige Conklin was fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 30.29 seconds while junior Hallie Nash was second in the 400 meters with a time of 1:09.36 and Conklin added a third place time of 1:12.15 in the same event.

Minot High freshman Sophia Lade was fourth in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:49.22, eighth grader Lucy Harris was fifth at 5:53.35 and sophomore Scout Ulrickson in sixth place with a 5:55.52 time. Lade (2:44.03), Ulrickson (2.47.46) and Harris (2:47.99) were fifth, sixth and seventh consecutively in the 800 meters as well.

For the boys team, Kraft added a third place time of 43.55 in the 300 meter hurdles.

Minot North junior John Williams III placed second in the triple jump with a 42-foot leap and fourth in the long jump at 20-7 for the Sentinels. Minot North also claimed second in the 4×100 relays with junior Carter Coleman, Williams III, sophomore Aaron Garza and freshman Ethan Howey in 46.36 seconds. Sentinel junior Nolan Howey also placed fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.42 at the event.

Minot High senior Kobe Ermen placed fifth in the boys shot put with a throw of 47-6 and fourth in the discus with a 148-9 mark. Brooks placed sixth (145-3) and Teagan Nicholes seventh (137-7) in the discus as well for the Magi. Junior Mason Eichhorn claimed sixth place with a throw of 134-5 while senior Irmen was seventh with a 132-9 mark in the javelin for Minot High.
