Lifelong dreams have been fulfilled this week, as the 2023 MLB Draft took place in Seattle, Wash. as part of the All-Star Week festivities.

Being a lengthy, three-day event, the MLB Draft began on Sunday night and concluded on Tuesday afternoon as teams made their final selections in the 20-round draft.

With pick 388 (13th round), Bismarck native Cade Feeney did not have to wait any longer to hear his name called, as the right-handed pitcher was selected by the Boston Red Sox.

Feeney made his way to Fargo to play for the North Dakota State Bison after an excellent prep career at Century High School.

During his time with the Bison, success continued to follow Feeney. The junior was named to the All-Summit League First Team in 2021 and 2023, was named to the Collegiate Baseball News Freshmen All-American Team in 2021 and was named to the Summit League Championship All-Tournament Team in 2021 and 2022 among many other accomplishments.

Although Feeney was a two-way player with the Bison in 2021, he proceeded to focus on pitching for the rest of his collegiate career, which was a decision that ultimately helped him get drafted by the Red Sox.

Tossing 229.2 innings in three seasons with the Bison, Feeney owned a 4.15 career ERA with 45 walks and 196 strikeouts in 41 starts on the mound.

It wasn’t just on the mound that Feeney stood out. He was named to the Summit League All-Academic Team (2022, 2023), named to the Summit League Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence (2022) and was named to the Summit League Academic Honor Roll (2021, 2022).
