Majettes sweep Patriots

The Bismarck Century Patriots made the trip to Minot to play a doubleheader against the Minot High Majettes who are not only the top team in the Western Dakota Association (WDA) standings for softball, but also currently ranked No. 1 in the state. The home team was able to produce wins in both games and allowed the visiting Patriots seven hits and two runs over the two games.

Minot High 14, Century 0

The Majettes scored three runs in the first inning, seven runs in the third and four more runs in the fourth inning while holding the Patriots scoreless in the game.

Minot High senior Ellington Anderson was walked to start the game in the bottom of the first. Senior Tayler Falcon singled to right, moving Anderson to third on the hit. Majettes senior Isabelle Anderson grounded out and scored her twin with the hit.

Junior Halle Baker hit a sacrifice fly to score Falcon and give the Majettes a 2-0 lead. Junior Sydnee Bartsch was able to reach base on a dropped third strike by the catcher. With two outs, senior Avery Lunde hit a double that scored Bartsch for the final run of the inning.

In the bottom of the third inning, I. Anderson reached base on a fielding error before being replaced by pinch runner Darby Mowbray. Minot High’s Baker singled and Bartsch then hit a bunt to advance her to third base to load the bases. Then, Lunde was walked, scoring Mowbary from third.

Minot High junior Gabbi Rohrer doubled on a grounder to left field that scored both Baker and Bartsch on the play. Senior Jillian Ackerman was walked to put her on first base and Lunde on third. With one out, E. Anderson stepped to the plate and hit a line drive to center that ended up being a triple that scored Lunde, Rohrer and Ackerman. The inning ended with Minot High up 10-0 going into the fourth inning.

At the bottom of the fourth inning, Minot High’s Rohrer singled, Ackerman grounded out to advance her and junior Journey Larson singled on a line drive to score Rohrer. With one out, E. Anderson doubled with Larson scoring on the throw into the field and E. Anderson reached third on the throw to home.

The next batter, Falcon, singled to score a run. After Falcon stole second, Baker singled to bring Falcon around for the score to make the game 14-0 in the end for the Majettes.

Minot High was 12 of 25 batting with E. Anderson, Falcon, Baker, Rohrer and Larson each talling two hits in the game.

Baker pitched five innings for the win and allowed no runs on three hits for the game.

Minot High 9, Century 2

In the second game, Century was on the scoreboard first at the top of the first inning of play with one run. Minot High tied the game when I. Anderson hit a sacrifice fly to score her twin sister E. Anderson on the play.

The Majettes scored three runs at the bottom of the second inning on a hit by Rohrer, junior Raegan Terril was walked, single by Larson, E. Anderson was walked and Falcon grounded out for the second out, scoring Terrel on the play. The final run of the inning was on a double by I. Anderson for the 4-1 lead.

The Majettes scored two runs at the top of both the fourth and fifth innings for the win. Minot High was 11 for 28 as a team. Falcon, Larson and Terrel each had two hits while each of the Anderson sisters, Baker, Lunde and Rohrer all had one hit in the game.

Majettes had two pitchers, with Bartsch going three and one third inning, allowing two runs on three hits while Terrel pitched three and two thirds innings and allowed no runs on one hit in relief.

Century (1-7, 3-11) will host TMCHS (Belcourt) today while Minot High (9-1, 16-3) will play the same team on Friday, May 3, at home
