Minot North over Century, Minot High in at third spot

Kari Gibb/MDN Minot High eighth grader, Parker Argent, tees off at the Minot North Invitational last week at Vardon.

The countdown has begun. The 2024 NDHSAA Class A Boys Golf State Tournament will be held on June 4-5 at Kings Walk Golf Course in Grand Forks. The West Region Tournament will be Wednesday, May 29, at the Jamestown Country Club. The final prep event is the Dickinson Invitational on Friday, May 17, at the Heart River Golf Course.

So much is known as the season winds down.

So much is still unknown as well.

The Minot North Sentinels continued their battle for the top stop with Bismarck Century. The Sentinels beat the Patriots at the St. Mary’s Invitational on Tuesday, with a score of 318 to 319 and the top score at the meet was for Minot North junior Kasen Rostad with a 75 for the day.

Mandan senior Jayce Johnson carded a 76 for sole possession of second place while Minot North junior Bennett Bartsch and Century senior Aidan Kaufman each shot 77 and tied for third place.

Minot High is making strides as the season draws to an end with eighth grader Parker Argent hitting a 79 on the round for seventh place at the invitational. While his 79 is the top score for the Magicians, it would also have been the top score for six other teams as well.

Besides Rostad and Bartsch, the Sentinels had junior Tyler Bast and sophomore Walter Langhan at 83, eighth grader Teegan Dangel at 86 and sophomore Kyler Weishaar at 92 at the meet.

Century had freshman Parker Beck at 78, senior Dawson Lentz at 81, sophomore Fynn Sagsveen at 83 with both senior Lucas Schoepp and sophomore Afton Bartz at 84 for the day.

The Magicians were in at third for the meet with a 337 as a team. Argent was joined by freshmen Connor Essler at 85 and Easton Bradley at 86, sophomore Mattson Burchhard at 87, junior Carter Dunstan at 88 and freshman Nathan Peterson at 101 for Minot High.

The top rounds for the day were; Rostad, Johnson, Bartsch, Kaufman, Century, Legacy sophomore Brodie Berger at 78, Century freshman Parker Beck at 78, Argent, St. Mary’s junior Ryker Landers at 80, Bismarck High senior Tyrus Jangula at 80 and Century senior Dawson Lentz at 81 for the day.
