Records fall, tickets punched at West Region meet

BISMARCK – Records fell on Friday afternoon, as the Minot High track and field teams competed at the West Region Meet at the Bismarck Community Bowl.

The girls’ 4×200-meters relay team, comprised of Emily Mattern, Eve Knutson, Maicee Burke and Faith Brown, set both a new school record and a new WDA record with a time of 1 minute, 43.37 seconds. The mark is also the second-fastest 4×200 relay time in the state this season.

The boys’ 4×100 relay team of Anthony Brown, Michael George, Jonathan Galbert, and Tyson Ruzicka just missed out on setting a school record of their own with a time of 42.95.

Jacob Roth was among the Minot High athletes who punched their tickets to the state meet next week, thanks to a sixth-place finish in the pole vault.

Overall, the Minot girls finished in second place with 102 points, finishing 21 points back of champion Bismarck. The Majettes finished one point ahead of Legacy (101). Other finishers were: 4. Century (80), 5. Dickinson (75.5), 6. Jamestown (66), 7. Williston (52), 8. Mandan (50.5), 9. St. Mary’s (48), and 10. Watford City (32).

In addition to the record setting relay team, individual winners for the Majettes included Brown in the 100, Mattern – 400, Brown, Makayla Whitfield, Rachel Nwankwo and Burke – 4×100 relay, and Nwankwo in the triple jump.

On the boys’ side, Century took top honors with a score of 172, followed by Legacy (142.5) and Bismarck (138). Minot finished in fourth-place with 93.5. Other finishers were: 5. Williston (65), 6. Mandan (48), 7. Dickinson (33), 8. Watford City (22), 9. St. Mary’s (20), 10. Jamestown (4), and 11. Turtle Mountain Community (3).

Anthony Brown was the lone Magi to claim an individual title, winning the triple jump.
