Three Bison named Summit League Academic All-League

Three North Dakota State baseball players were named to the Summit League Academic All-League Team on Tuesday the league office announced.

Seniors Jake Malec and Tucker Rohde, along with sophomore Max Loven, were selected to the team. NDSU’s three selections were the most by any team in the league. Loven and Rohde were both honored with the award last season as well.

Malec, an exercise science major with a minor in psychology, was named to the All-Summit League First Team selection and was named the Summit League Championship MVP. He led the league in runs and triples, while ranking 30th in the nation in runs scored and 31st in total hits. His 247 at-bats this season were a school record, while his 79 hits were the fourth-most in school history.

A finance major, Rohde was also named to the All-Summit League Second Team earlier this season. Rohde’s 37 walks were the second-most in school history and led the Summit League this year. He finished his career as one of six players in school history to play in over 200 games, while making the eight most starts in school history with 182.

Loven, a finance major, was an All-Summit League Second Team selection and named to the Summit League Championship All-Tournament Team. His 1.61 walks allowed per nine innings this season ranks ninth in school history and 43rd in the nation. He finished the season with a 3-3 record in 12 starts with a 4.82 ERA. He struck out 50 in 61.2 innings of work.

To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.3, completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team’s competitions, except pitchers who must have participated in 20 percent of their team’s total contests.

Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league’s participating members. The teams are made up of nine student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
