Almy pitches complete game, Minot Vistas earn 4-1 victory over Dickinson

BISMARCK — Teetering on the brink of elimination, the No. 7-seeded Minot Vistas took advantage of their opportunities and defeated No. 6-seeded Dickinson in a Class AA State Tournament loser-out game.

Minot starting pitcher Aydan Almy went the distance for the Vistas. During his complete-game effort, Almy allowed just three hits and one walk.

Both teams loaded the bases in the first inning. Each side concluded the frame with one run, but the Vistas did not stop there.

A pivotal three-run fourth inning created ample distance for Minot. The Vistas needed just one hit to separate themselves from the Roughriders.

Almy worked quickly and continued to pitch to contact. He recorded two strikeouts, but the Dickinson hitters went down quickly.

Trent Greek recorded two of Minot’s four hits. Hunter Ruzicka, Dylan Vigested, Morgan Nygaard and Greek contributed RBIs.

Nicholas Deschamp took the loss for Dickinson. The starting pitcher allowed all four runs and walked five Minot batters.

Jaren Hugelen tallied two hits for Dickinson. Carson Weiler added the other hit, but the Roughriders left three runners on base.

The Vistas will face No. 4-seeded Grand Forks at 11 a.m. this morning. The loser will drop out of the state tournament.

Season concludes for Minot Metros, Bismarck Reps claim 6-4 win

VALLEY CITY — A late rally helped the Bismarck Reps take a 6-4 victory over the Minot Metros in Wednesday morning’s Class A State Tournament loser-out contest.

A sacrifice bunt and an RBI single gave the Reps their first two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Minot took advantage of some Bismarck errors and countered with three runs in the top of the third frame.

The Reps continued to play small ball and scored two more runs in the bottom of the third. Miles Stiefel and Caden Fischer used a station-to-station approach and added two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth frame.

Minot got a run back on a fielder’s choice in the top of the sixth. Bismarck relief pitcher Jackson Klipfel recorded the save in two innings of work.

Both teams recorded nine hits, with three Minot players (Jonas Bubach, Tyler Buchanan and Calvin Baker) contributing two apiece. Minot committed just one error, while Bismarck racked up three errors.

Reps starter Preston Bartsch captured the win on the mound. Bartsch allowed eight hits and struck out five batters in five innings.
