NDHSAA extends suspension of spring sports

The North Dakota High School Activities Association Board of Directors voted on Tuesday to extend the ongoing suspension of the high school spring sports season.

The decision was made in accordance with North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum’s executive order 2020-10, which mandates the closure of all public and non-public K-12 schools until further notice.

As for the winter basketball state tournaments, the Board’s tournament committee will review the situation and then report back to the Board on April 14.

Two Minotauros named

to All-Rookie First Team

The North American Hockey League released its 2019-20 All-Rookie Teams on Tuesday.

Minotauros skaters Kyler Kleven and Owen Baumgartner both made the All-Rookie First Team.

Kleven, a dynamic forward, led the Minotauros in scoring this season with 53 points (25 goals, 28 assists) in 48 games played. His 1.10 points per game is the best offensive showing in Minotauros’ nine-year history.

Kleven finished two points behind Miroslav Mucha for the most points in a single season (55). It’s a mark that would have likely been broken had the season not been canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Baumgartner, a sturdy 17-year-old defenseman, finished the season with four goals and 14 assists in 27 games played.

The Minotauros and the Bismarck Bobcats each had two players named tothe All-Rookie First Team.

Former Minot players to make an All-Rookie Team include: Nick Strom (2018-2019, Second Team), Alex Adams (2016-2017, Second Team), Blake Lizotte (2014-2015, First Team), Michael Louria (2013-2014, Second Team) and Jon Lizotte (2013-2014, Second Team).

The NAHL will be announcing more 2019-2020 awards over the coming days.
