Majettes hockey comes alive late, defeats Jamestown 6-1

Jimmy Lafakis/MDN Minot senior forward Kaya Shaw controls the puck during the first period of Friday night's contest against Jamestown in Minot. The Majettes won 6-1.

After the Jamestown girls hockey team took an early 1-0 advantage during Friday’s game in Minot, the Majettes roared back in their home opener.

Minot High (2-2) earned a 6-1 victory over the visiting Blue Jays (0-3) at Maysa Arena. Three goals in each of the final two periods buoyed the Majettes.

Jamestown junior forward Ella Roaldson scored the first period’s lone goal. After just 2:19 had elapsed in the second period, Minot freshman forward Taylyn Cope found the back of the net on an unassisted goal.

Cope did not finish there, however. Just over four minutes later, she scored once again after senior forward O’Malley Eslinger provided an assist.

Minot senior forward Carson Abrahamson rounded out the second-period scoring after an assist from senior forward Kaya Shaw. The Majettes led 3-1 after two periods and looked to capitalize on the lead.

Senior forward Brenna Abrahamson scored 9:17 into the third period. She received assists from Carson Abrahamson and junior defenseman Paige Ackerman.

After Ackerman helped out her teammate, it came time for her to score. Her unassisted insurance goal and Brenna Abrahamson’s final goal sealed the deal for the Majettes.

Shaw and junior defenseman Alyssa Enns assisted on the Majettes’ sixth goal.

The Majettes will host Fargo Davies at 2 p.m. this afternoon.
