Majettes swim and dive finishes sixth at West Fargo Invite

WEST FARGO — The Minot High School swimming and diving team competed against a plethora of teams from across North Dakota on Saturday.

Minot earned sixth place out of 16 teams at the West Fargo Invite in West Fargo. The Majettes posted a team score of 160. Century’s score of 357 helped the Patriots claim the top spot.

Minot earned fifth place in the meet’s initial event, the 200-yard medley relay. Iris Jessen, Elise Altringer, Olivia Peatross and Payton Luzardo combined for a time of 2:00.39.

“Little by little, we are slowly getting to where we would like to be,” Minot head coach Emily Jensen said. “There are some growth opportunities with our younger athletes to be a little more aggressive in their swims. Seeing the talent that the east teams have was eye opening for our whole team today. They are talented and they have depth, and it’s going to take a lot to compete with them at tournament time.”

The Majettes finished fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Jessen, Luzardo, Brynn Neumann and Allie Elliott posted a time of 3:54.51.

“We need to put together some strong relays,” Jensen said. “We just haven’t found the combination yet as a team to make that happen. We will get there.”

The Majettes will host Dickinson and Williston at the Magic City Campus at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11.

“Both Dickinson and Williston are strong teams,” Jensen said. “Our kids race well against them, and they are both great competitors for us.”
