Minot High soccer topples Williston, 2-0

WILLISTON — The Minot High School boys soccer team continued their road swing with a 2-0 win over Williston on Tuesday night. With the win, Minot improved to 3-4-1 (3-2-1 WDA) on the season.

“It wasn’t pretty at times tonight,” Minot head coach Creighton Bachmeier said. “Our team found a way to get a much-needed three points.”

The Magi struck twice early in the second half. Junior midfielder Cam Bolinske found the back of the net in the 51st minute, while junior forward Cam Foley scored in the 60th minute.

Senior goalkeeper Braden Cochran made three saves for Minot. The Magi recorded 22 shots, 10 of which were on target.

Minot will travel to Bismarck High for a 7:30 p.m. match on Thursday. The WDA rivals battled to a 2-2 tie on Aug. 20.

“This group is as tough a group as I have been around,” Bachmeier said. “I am excited to go back on the road Thursday at Bismarck High.”

MSU men’s golf wins Bemidji Invite

BEMIDJI, Minn. — At the completion of the Bemidji Invitational, the Minot State men’s golf team secured their first No. 1 finish of the 2019 season.

The Beavers team lead the invitational after Day 1 and continued that lead into Day 2 of the invitational. The team scored two strokes better than their Day 1 appearance, shooting a 293. All five of the golfers who competed for the Beavers shot 76 or better on day two leading the Beavers to a final score of a 588, three strokes ahead host team Bemidji State University.

Cody Reynolds shot a 72 on both days and tied for 2nd place. Matthew Bean bested his day one score by two strokes to take 4th place and Carson Harcourt shot a 75 to tie for 9th place. Kash Kaufman and Andrew Makarchuk round out the team shooting a 74, and 75 on day two.
