MSU baseball set to begin NSIC Tournament

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — The Minot State baseball team opens postseason play today as the No. 4-seeded Beavers battle No. 5 Wayne State in the first round of the 2019 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Baseball Tournament in St. Cloud, Minnesota. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

The tournament was originally scheduled to begin on Wednesday, but was moved back a day due to rain.

Minot State clinched its third straight trip to the NSIC Tournament with a 32-16 record in the regular season, including 24-10 in NSIC games.

Michael Borst was named First Team All-NSIC after ranking in the top 10 in the NSIC in eight statistical categories.

Jaymon Cervantes became Minot State’s first pitcher in program history to earn All-NSIC honors while selected Second Team All-NSIC.

Wyatt Schlosser enters the week with a team-high nine-game reached base streak, followed by Borst and Darrel Doll with a streak of eight games.

Doll and Schlosser begin the tournament with a six-game hitting streak at the plate.

The Beavers are outscoring opponents 43-10 in the second inning this season and hold a 27-6 margin in the ninth inning or later.

In their five meetings with Wayne State in the last two seasons, four games have been decided by one run.

What’s Next

Minot State continues play on Friday with opponent and game time to be determined based on Thursday’s result. With a win, Minot State would play Friday at 3 p.m. against the winner of No. 1 Augustana and No. 8 Winona State. A loss would send the Beavers to an elimination game at 11 a.m. on Friday against the loser of Augustana and Winona State.
