Majettes tennis hands Dickinson first loss of season, 5-4

DICKINSON – The Dickinson girls tennis team (7-1, 4-1) is undefeated no more, as the Majettes (7-2, 3-1) emerged victorious in a 5-4 victory on the road.

Minot set the tone in singles play by winning four of the six matches. The most thrilling battle was between senior Raquel Egge, who committed to Concordia College on Wednesday, and Dickinson’s Anna Stankova.

Egge narrowly defeated Stankova in both sets for a pair of 7-5 victories. Also winning was freshman Eden Olson against Lauren Jorda (6-0, 6-1), senior Joelle Fettig against Emma Dazell (6-2, 6-3) and sophomore Morgan Wheeler against Alexa Cofer (6-2, 6-4).

“We talked early about getting some strong singles play to start and we did that, getting (four) straight set wins throughout the lineup,” MHS head coach Scott DeLorme said. “We know our 4-6 players are capable of winning matches for us and we’re now seeing them play to their strengths as we get more match play experience.”

Needing just one win in doubles play, Egge delivered once again as she paired up with Wheeler for a victory over Jorda and Dazell (6-2, 6-1).

Minot will try to keep rolling on Saturday when it faces West Fargo Sheyenne in Bismarck. The dual is set to begin at 1 p.m.
