MSU baseball drops rubber match to Minnesota State, 7-0

MANKATO, MN — The Minot State baseball team (8-9, 2-3 NSIC) couldn’t seem to get any momentum going on Saturday, as they suffered a 7-0 road loss to Minnesota State (13-6, 5-3 NSIC).

After the two teams combined for 26 runs on Friday to split a pair of games, both offenses came out cold on Saturday. Neither team managed to draw first blood until the bottom of the sixth inning, when Minnesota State scored two runs off a fielder’s choice and an RBI single.

The pair of runs sparked a scoring spree for the Mavericks as they added another four to their total in the seventh inning and cruised to the 7-0 victory.

Minnesota State pitcher Collin Denk kept the Beavers off the board by striking out six batters and allowing just five hits in six innings on the mound.

Minot State pitcher Zach Newman went five innings, struck out five and allowed two hits in the losing effort.

Next up for the Beavers is a doubleheader against Winona State on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. in Winona, Minnesota.
