Clements named head women’s soccer coach

Chris Clements has been named the Minot State head women’s soccer coach, Director of Athletics Andy Carter announced on Monday.

Clements becomes the second head coach in program history after Jason Spain was at the helm since the program began in 2010.

“After a lengthy, but robust process, I am excited that Chris has agreed to be the new leader for our women’s soccer program,” Carter said. “Chris has a full understanding of the history of our program and grasps the vision of our future.”

Clements comes to Minot State after a successful five-year stint as the head coach at Hastings College. Under his direction, the Broncos recorded five straight national tournament appearances and were consistently ranked in the top 25 for all five seasons while compiling an 81-17-10 record.

In five seasons, Clements captured four conference championships and two conference tournament titles and developed seven All-Americans and 23 All-Conference First Team selections while maintaining a 3.45 or better grade point average in the classroom.

“I’m extremely excited for his opportunity to join the MSU athletic department and women’s soccer team,” Clements said. “I’d like to thank Hastings College for the support they have given me the last five years, especially Patty Sitorius and the players who have worked hard to achieve such great success. As I start this next journey in my career, I am grateful for Andy Carter and the trust he has shown in hiring me to lead MSU women’s soccer at such an exciting time for the program.”

Prior to his term at Hastings College, Clements served as the head men’s and women’s soccer coach at Avila University while posting an overall record of 62-38-11 in six seasons with the women’s program.

Clements began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Central Missouri for three seasons. As the lead recruiter, UCM placed 26 players on the MIAA All-Academic team and tallied seven First Team All-Conference, 14 Honorable Mention All-Conference and an NCAA DII All-American selection.

“I love his energy and passion and believe that he is the best fit for us to achieve our goals long-term,” Carter said. “We are extremely fortunate to have Chris, wife Natalie, and his entire family join us at Minot State. They will be a great addition to our community.”

Minot State finished the 2018 season with a 13-6-3 overall record while making the program’s fourth NCAA Tournament appearance, including the third appearance in the last four seasons.
