MSU wrestling shares venue with Minot High, falls to U-Mary
The Minot State Dome was split in half for two wrestling duals at the same time on Thursday evening.
The Minot State wrestling team lost to rival U-Mary, 20-18, while the Minot High School wrestling team defeated Turtle Mountain Community High School, 56-16.
The Beavers (2-9) got wins from Jordan Will, Dean Arevalo, Jered Sublet, Zach Berry, and Keegan Berry.
With MSU leading 18-17, the dual came down to the 197-pound match between Minot High graduate Je-Mario Jones, wrestling for MSU, and U-Mary’s Gabe Anderson. With a 6-4 decision, Anderson pulled out the match and dual win for the Marauders.
Magi wrestling routs Turtle Mountain, 56-16
The Minot High School wrestling team left no doubt on Thursday, cruising past Turtle Mountain Community High School at the Minot State Dome by a score of 56-16.
Daniel Fernandez set the tone in the opening 106-pound match by forcing a fall against Turtle Mountains’ Craig Bercier in the opening minute. After getting an open win, the Magi struck again in the 120-pound match when junior Kelby Armstrong pinned Turtle Mountain’s Josiah Marcellais at the 45-second mark.
Minot then earned another two falls courtesy of seniors Davian Rios at the 126 and Samuel Goodman at the 132 to give the team a 30-0 lead.
Also scoring for the Magi on the night were juniors Trevon McClanahan with a technical fall at the 145, Jacob Carmichael with a fall at the 182 and Preston Jones with a 6-3 decision win at the 220 to give the Magi the 56-16 victory.
Next up for Minot is a home dual against Bismarck Legacy on Friday at 6 p.m.
