MSU’s Gust breaks own school record

Indianola, Iowa — Senior Tanner Gust broke his own school record in the hammer throw highlighting the Minot State performances at the Kip Janvrin Invitational on Friday on the campus of Simpson College.

Gust uncorked a throw of 169-08 (51.72) to top his previous school record of 51.41m set last season at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Gust finished seventh overall in the competition with his record-breaking throw.

Gust also competed in the discus competition and finished 14th overall with a throw of 130-02.

Jacob Hatfield also posted a top-10 finish for the Beavers in the hammer throw as he placed 10th overall with a throw of 161-08.

The Minot State 4×400 relay team posted the Beavers top finish on the day as the team of Josh Drew, Daniel Daffinrud, Colin Olson and Dante Gadboist finished fourth overall in a time of 3:32.55.

Devan Shumway posted a 12th-place finish in the 5000 meters as he completed the race in a time of 15:54.01.

Daffinrud led the Beaver sprinters with a 13th-place finish in the 100 meters (11.23), while Josh Drew finished 23rd in the 200 meters (23.02).

Gadbois and Olson competed in the 800 meters and Gadbois was 21st overall in 2:00.47, while Olson was 27th in 2:02.81.

Derek Wax and Ben Aasen competed in the javelin competition at the Drake Relays earlier in the day. Wax placed 16th with a throw of 172-1, while Aasen was 23rd overall with a mark of 154-11.

MSU’s Hunsaker, Huether post

top-six finishes

Indianola, Iowa — Amber Hunsaker and Samantha Huether each posted a top-six finish at the Kip Janvrin Invitational on Friday on the campus of Simpson College.

Hunsaker led the Beavers with a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw, while Huether finished sixth overall in the 3000 steeplechase. Hunsaker placed fourth overall with a throw of 150-07, while Huether was sixth with a season-best time of 11:40.83.

Hunsaker also competed at the prestigious Drake Relays and finished 13th overall in the javelin competition with a throw of 126-6.
