Seven MSU soccer players earn All-NSIC honors

BURNSVILLE, Minn. — Seven players from the Minot State women’s soccer team earned All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference honors, the league office announced Thursday.

Senior Kelli Creese, junior Haley Berryman and freshman Sofia Lewis were named to the All-NSIC First team.

Junior Andrea Franco was named to the All-NSIC Second team while juniors Meagan Kawahara and Ashley Franco earned All-NSIC Third team honors.

Sophomore Goalkeeper Erin Rafferty was named All-NSIC Honorable Mention.

The seven Beavers selected to the all-conference team ties the 2016 squad for the most in Minot State history.

Creese was named to the all-conference team for the fourth time in her career after starting all 18 matches for the Beavers while being a part of the defensive unit that recorded nine shutouts. The La Verne, Calif. native played the second most minutes on the team (1,608) while scoring four goals and posting three assists. Creese is first all-time at Minot State in games played, games started and minutes played. She was named First Team All-NSIC last season and was named honorable mention in 2015 and 2014.

Berryman appeared in all 18 matches, starting 17 of them in her first season at Minot State. The Ephrata, Wash. native led the team with six assists while finished second for the Beavers with seven goals and 20 points on the season. Berryman finished the regular season ranked tied for fourth in the NSIC in assists (6), fifth in points (20) and tied for fifth in goals (7).

Lewis appeared in all 18 matches, starting 17 of them in her first collegiate season. The Minot, N.D. native led the team with 12 goals and 29 points while finishing second with five assists. Lewis earned NSIC Offensive Player of the Week honors on October 2 and ranked tied for first in the NSIC in goals scored (12) and game-winning goals (5), second in points (29) and tied for eighth in assists (5). Lewis made her mark nationally while ranking 16th in game-winning goals and tied for 31st in goals.

Andrea Franco appeared in all 18 matches, making 17 starts. The Long Beach, Calif. native scored three goals and dished out one assist while recording seven points on the season. Franco played 1,453 minutes in helping anchor the midfield.

Kawahara appeared in all 18 matches, including 17 starts. The Riverside, Calif. native scored one goal and recorded one assist. Kawahara played the fifth most minutes on the team for the Beavers this season.

Ashley Franco earned her second all-conference honor after appearing in all 18 matches, starting 17 of them. The Long Beach, Calif. native dished out four assists, finishing with the third most assists on the team. Franco kicked nearly every single one of Minot State’s corner kicks this season. Franco played the third most minutes on the team (1,547) while helping anchor the defense that notched nine shutouts on the season. She was a Third Team All-NSIC choice in 2016.

Rafferty earned her second consecutive all-conference designation after starting all 18 matches in goal for the Beavers. The Littleton, Colo. native posted a Minot State single-season record nine shutouts and was selected as NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week on October 23. Rafferty ranked second in the NSIC in goals-against average (0.533), second in shutouts (9) and third in save percentage (.868). Rafferty also made her mark nationally while ranking 20th in save percentage and 22nd in goals-against average. Rafferty was named the NSIC Goalkeeper of the Year and the conference Freshman of the Year last season and also earned First Team All-NSIC honors.
