Beavers volleyball swept by U-Mary

BISMARCK — The Minot State volleyball team fell in three sets (13-25, 17-25, 16-25) at UMary on Tuesday night in Bismarck, N.D.

The loss drops Minot State to 5-20 overall (1-15 NSIC) on the season while the Marauders improve to 8-17 (4-12 NSIC).

Emily Falldorf led the Beavers with eight kills while hitting .467 in the three-set loss. Nicole Wondrasek followed Falldorf with six kills while Shelby Spuller added five kills.

Junior Kelsey Dewulf handed out 24 assists while Shae Pedersen dished out two assists.

Falldorf led Minot State with three blocks, followed by Dewulf with two blocks.

Freshman Karli Koza posted a team-high 14 digs, moving her to 10th in school history for most digs in a season.

The Beavers posted a 4-3 advantage in blocks over Mary while the Marauders held a .429-.167 advantage in hitting in the three-set contest.

Minot State returns to action this weekend, as they travel to Winona, Minn. to face No. 15 Winona State on Friday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. before traveling to Fayette, Iowa to take on No. 25 Upper Iowa on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 4 p.m.

MSU wrestling picked ninth in NSIC preseason poll

BURNSVILLE, Minn. — The Minot State wrestling team has been selected to finish ninth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Poll as selected by the conference head coaches and announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Minot State finished the 2016-17 season with a 4-16 overall record and an 0-8 record in the NSIC.

Heavyweight Mitch Eull was selected as the Minot State wrestler to watch for the upcoming season. Eull posted a 6-2 record last season.

The Beavers return eight starters from last season and 23 letterwinners overall.

Jered Sublet, who will be competing in the second semester, was second on the team with 14 victories last season at 141 pounds and finished the year with a 14-12 record.

Carlos Toledano, who wrestled at 174 pounds, was 13-5 last year and ranked third on the team in victories.

Parker Osterman and Keegan Berry also return for the Beavers. Osterman was 7-11 wrestling in the 165-pound class and Berry was 10-18 wrestling at 184 pounds.

Zach Berry leads the Beavers 157 pound wrestlers after posting an 8-7 record last season.

Michael Rangel won five matches at 125 pounds last season, but will move up to the 133-pound class this year while Dean Arevalo will drop to 125 pounds after competing at 133 pounds last year.

Liam Hayden returns at 125 pounds after recording five victories last season.

Nicholas Pereira (125), Shane Williams, Jr. (133), Jeseb Mogen (141), Tanner Crissler (149), Dimitri Grivas (149), Jacob Knudsvig (157), Stosh Sitkowski (157), Frank Straka (165), Bryce Broome (197), Andrew Helfrich (197), Jake Belland (285) and Austin Moen (285) also return for Minot State.

Newcomers for the Beavers include Oscar Nellis (125), Brandon Meikel (125), Marco Antonio Ramirezlazos (133), Cade Horn (141), Joseph Lopez (141), Max Miller (149), Brandt Ackerman (157), Luis Lopez (157), Tyler Sharron (157), Konner Beeter (174), Joshua Jaurez (174), Matthew Rabe (174), Blake Johnston (197), Vincent Ebanks (285), Josh Vigil-Harrison (285) and Jordan Will (285).

Minot State will open the season with the Green-Red intrasquad dual on Friday (Nov. 3) at 7 p.m. in the Minot State Dome and then face Mary on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. in the MSU Dome in the regular season opener.
