Tauros take down Bismarck 2-1 in OT

Austin Dollimer was the hero in overtime for the Minot Minotauros Friday, as he gave Minot a 2-1 victory over rival Bismarck at Maysa Arena.

Miroslav Mucha put the Tauros on the board in the first period, but Bismarck’s Tommy Altounian responded with a goal to tie the game at one heading into the second. Neither team scored in the second and third periods, setting the stage for Dollimer’s overtime winner.

The Minotauros outshot Bismarck 23-21. Minot goalie Jack Robbel earned the win in net, stopping 20 shots on 21 attempts. Bismarck goalie Ryan Ullan took the loss, stopping 21 shots on 23 chances.

Minot is back in action at 7:15 p.m. tonight against Bismarck on the road.

MSU soccer plays

to a draw with Northern State

ABERDEEN, S.D. — The Minot State women’s soccer team played to a 1-1 draw at Northern State on Friday afternoon in Aberdeen, S.D.

The tie pushes Minot State to 11-4-2 overall and 10-3-1 in the NSIC while Northern State’s record moves to 5-9-2 (4-8-1 NSIC) on the season.

Northern State broke the scoreless tie in the 51st minute, scoring on their lone shot attempt of the second half. Shianne Rosselli scored her fourth goal of the season off an assist from Stephany Estrada.

The Beavers tied the match shortly after in the 60th minute. Kelli Creese found the net, scoring her fourth goal of the season and second career goal off a penalty kick.

Minot State posted a dominant 30-8 advantage in shots and 7-3 lead in corner kicks over the Wolves.

Yellow cards were issued to Sydney Shintaffer in the 60th minute and Minot State’s Daniela Fonseca in the 104th minute.

Minot State returns to the pitch on Sunday for Senior Day. The Beavers host Minnesota State University Moorhead at 1 p.m. and will recognize the three seniors before the match. Links to live stats and video are available on msubeavers.com.

Crookston volleyball sweeps Beavers

Freshman Karli Koza recorded a match-high 26 digs, but Minot State dropped a 25-22, 25-22, 25-19 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match to Minnesota Crookston on Friday in the Minot State Dome.

Koza reached double figures in digs for the 22nd time this season and posted over 20 digs for the ninth time as she leads the Beavers with 409 digs.

Shelby Spuller paced the Minot State offense with 12 kills and she also added four digs and a block. Hayley Swain finished with eight kills, while Emily Falldorf and Jeanne Brenner each finished with seven kills for Minot State.

Minot State, which dropped to 4-19 overall and 0-14 in conference play, hit .140 for the match and had 38 kills.

Minnesota Crookston, which raised its record to 6-16 overall and 3-11 in the NSIC, was led by Kassi Green who had a match-high 16 kills. Kaitlin Sikkink added nine kills for the Golden Eagles and Kelci Green finished with seven kills.

Kaycie Hagen finished with a double-double with 39 assists and 17 digs, while Maggie Perrel finished with 15 digs.

The first set featured eight ties and two lead changes, but the Golden Eagles took the lead for good on the strength of a 3-0 that broke a 14-14 deadlock. The Beavers climbed to within 18-16 on a pair of Golden Eagle attack errors, but Minnesota Crookston stretched the lead to 21-16 with a 3-0 run.

Three kills from Spuller helped bring Minot State to within 22-21, but a Beaver attack error and a service ace by Hagen gave the Golden Eagles a 24-21 lead. MSU got to within 24-22, but Minnesota Crookston closed out the first set on a kill by Sikkink.

The second set was also tightly contested as it featured 10 ties and six lead changes. The Golden Eagles took a 20-17 lead on two kills and a Minot State attack error.

The Beavers responded and rallied to tie the set at 20-20 courtesy of two Golden Eagle errors and a kill by Swain.

A Minot State attack error gave the Golden Eagles the lead for good at 22-21 and closed out the second set on a kill by Sikkink.

Minnesota Crookston took control of the third set on the strength of two kills by Kassi Green and two Minot State attack errors which gave the Golden Eagles a 13-9 lead.

Minot State closed to within a single point of tying the set on three occasions, but the Golden Eagles closed out the third set with a 4-0 run.

Minot State returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 28) when it hosts Bemidji State at 2 p.m. in an NSIC match in the Minot State Dome.
