McGlenen, Demko lead MSU women’s golf at Midwest Classic

WARRENSBURG, Mo. — Minot State women golfers Katherine McGlenen and Alexandra Demko are tied for 11th place after the opening round of the Midwest Classic on Monday at the Mules National Golf Club.

McGlenen and Demko each fired an opening round five-over par 76 over the par-71, 5,800-yard layout at Mules National Golf Club. Led by McGlenen and Demko, Minot State is in sixth place in the 19-team field.

Miriam Dumes is tied for 16th place overall after shooting an opening round 77.

“McGlenen, Demko and Dumes really stepped up for us today,” said Minot State head coach Spencer Hilde. “Their games looked really sharp today. We were one score shy of really making a statement in the first round today.”

Kaitlyn Hill and Kira Dereniwsky rounded out the Beavers group for the day. Hill shot an opening round 90 and is tied for 89th overall, while Dereniwsky fired a 92 and is tied for 95th overall.

“We’ll look to build on today’s successes tomorrow and finish strong,” Hilde added.

Augustana, Arkansas Tech and Central Missouri are tied for the team lead with a score of 306. Lindenwood is fourth with a score of 309, followed by Missouri Western State (310) and Minot State.

The tournament will conclude today with the second round at Mules National Golf Club.
