Cheers to Ward County Historical Society

Cheers to the Ward County Historical Society, which added to its Pioneer Village Museum in Burlington this past week.

On Thursday the old Eureka School was moved onto the museum grounds. Eureka School has been split into two buildings, one of which contains a bathroom that will provide restroom facilities for the museum. The historical society might eventually put a military exhibit into one of the buiildings.

Historical Society members hope to hold a “soft reopening” for the museum this summer that would enable visitors to visit the grounds, view the outside of the buildings and see everything that has been accomplished this year at the museum.

And, even though the North Dakota State Fair traditionally held at the end of July has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, visitors looking for an outing will hopefully be able to visit the museum in Burlington for its “Grand Reopening” celebration on Aug. 1.

Historical society members are giving back to the community as well and plan to hold a highway cleanup day along U.S. Highway 2 and 52 for a three-mile stretch on either side of Burlington. The cleanup day is scheduled for 10 a.m. on June 6. For more information, check out the historical society’s website or its Facebook page.
