Larry was born February 9, 1941, the son of Floyd and Rita (Corkery) Leidholm, in Washburn. He was raised and educated in Washburn and worked on the family farm. Larry graduated from Washburn High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy on October 22, 1941. Larry was stationed at the U.S. Naval Station in San Francisco, CA.
