James Schoemer

Kenmare

James “Jim” Schoemer, 83, longtime Kenmare area farmer, passed away on July 5, 2026, in a Minot hospital with his family by his side.

Jim was born on June 10, 1943, a son of Mathew and Katherine (Siebert) Schoemer in Kenmare, ND. He was raised on the Schoemer farm, located in Kenmare Township. He attended school in Kenmare and graduated in 1961.

On July 20, 1974, Jim was united in marriage to Jacquelyn “Jackie” Hofer at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Larimore, ND. In 1974, they built their current homestead on the Schoemer farm, where they raised their three children Shanna, Patrick, and Alyssa.

Jim farmed alongside Patrick and his grandson Ryan until retiring in 2025. He also worked for Thompson-Larson Funeral home since 1978 as a Funeral Service attendant, a job he truly excelled at as he had the gift of gab.

Jim was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare. He served on many boards throughout the Kenmare region including, Kenmare Farmers Union board for 25 years, the Ward County Farmers Union Board and the Kenmare Hospital Board.

Jim is survived by:

Wife of almost 52 years, Jackie; Children: Shanna (Shane) Johnson, Bismarck, ND, Patrick (Stacey) Schoemer, Kenmare, ND, Alyssa (Brad) Binstock, Bismarck, ND; seven grandchildren: Sydney Johnson, Nolan Johnson, Taylor Schoemer, Ryan Schoemer, Blake Binstock, Ashlyn Binstock and Adyson Binstock; Siblings: Mary Wittich, Marge (Frank) Ratti, Jean Durick, Bill (Carlotta) Schoemer; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, father and mother-in-law Francis and Dorothy Hofer, brothers-in-law Dean Durick, and Daryl Wittich.

Visitation: Friday, July 10, 2026, from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, July 11, 2026 at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare, ND. The service will be livestreamed and may be accessed by going to Jim’s web page.
