Mary Donovan

Mary Ann Donovan, age 94, Cambridge, Wis., formerly from Minot, passed away on Oct. 8, 2023 in her home in Cambridge, WI. She was surrounded with love and support.

Mary was born Mary Ann Fritz on April 22, 1929 in Minot to Raymond M. and Eileine L. (Ryan) Fritz. She graduated from St. Leo’s Catholic High School in 1948.

On May 23, 1950, Mary married Richard I. Donovan and they made their home in Minot. She worked at Sears in the office until their move to Bismarck. They lived in Bismarck from 1960 until 1966 and returned to Minot. Richard passed away on Nov. 16th, 1985. Together they had 7 children. Mary never remarried.

Mary was happy working for many years as a Librarian in the Minot Public Schools system. She enjoyed passing her love of reading on to children, especially the youngest. After retiring, Mary took time to be active in the Parker Senior Center where she made many friends. One of her favorite activities was trips to the casino and playing the nickel machines, win or lose. She also volunteered at the Norsk Hostfest in Minot.

No one who knew her doubted her love of her Chihuahuas Chi-Chi, Kodi and Bonita. They were her constant companions for many years.

Mary was a lifelong member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church and sang in the choir whenever she could. Her hobbies were crocheting, knitting and embroidery. She also took great pride in her home and her children.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; parents; and younger sisters, Dorothy Hambek and Donna Gores.

She is survived by her children, Margaret (Steven) Fruh, Minot, Patricia Donovan, Cambridge WI, Ronald Donovan, Lake Stevens, WA, Timothy (Chau) Donovan, Lynnwood, WA, Kathy Miller, Minot, Karen Donovan, Juneau, AK, and Julie (Chris) Morrison, Lenexa, KS, as well as her Spiritually adopted son, Father Tomy Joseph; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be held on Friday, Oct. 20, 2023 at 10 am at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Minot. Burial will follow at Rosehill Memorial Park in Minot. Those wishing to sign the online register and share memories may access the online obituaries section at (www.thompsonlarson.com).
