Judy Haaland

Jan. 29, 1956-July 22, 2023

Carpio

Saturday, July 22, 2023, Judy Lynn Zahn Haaland, 67, of Carpio passed away peacefully in Billings, MT following a brief, yet heroic battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her beloved family. Early that morning the clouds lifted and the Aurora Borealis ushered her to heaven.

Judy was born Jan. 29, 1956, to Virgil Frederick and Olga Mildred (Sis) Zahn in Minot. She was born the seventh child out of an eight-sibling family. While attending college and taking care of her family, Judy worked diligently holding down two jobs. Judy graduated from Minot State University in 1991 with two associate degrees.

While married to Michael Grosz she was blessed with two children: Shane and Brandy and while married to Dale Lewis she was blessed with two additional children: Dana and Diane. On Nov. 23, 1991, Judy married the love of her life, Brent Haaland at a simple yet intimate ceremony in Carpio. Brent and Judy blended their families and never looked back. They made their home in Minot and later settled in Carpio.

With a large, busy family, Judy enjoyed pastimes such as knitting, sewing, jewelry making, ceramics, and gardening. As the children grew up and left the nest her passions expanded, and she added activities like camping, fishing, motorcycling, and snowmobiling. Her favorite hobbies were crafting and woodworking. Judy took on large scale remodel projects, tackling the reconstruction of campers and homes.

Judy was often multitasking having several projects going on at once. This way of life was a self-expression that allowed her to connect with who she was inherently on a soul level. In a word, Judy was curious. Her inquisitiveness and keen intellect drove all her pursuits. Whatever she did she was all in. Judy was a woman of many talents; she was known by her family as the one who could repair anything as she mechanically inclined.

Judy appreciated the beauty of flowering fields (of any sort) and the smell of fresh cut hay. She valued spending time with her family making memories- be it crafting, shopping, visiting or just enjoying quality time. In later years, Judy always made sure to set aside time to do something special with each individual grandchild. This in turn inspired them with undertakings of similar talents. Today the knowledge she shared lives on as she passed these attributes onto her kin. She was a loving, compassionate, and selfless person. Throughout her life she carried with her the teaching of Christ.

Judy was preceded in death by her father Virgil, mother Olga, Sisters Iris (infant) and Teresa and grandson Brady Lindquist.

She is survived by husband Brent Haaland. Children-Shane (Terri) Grosz, Brandy Jacome, Dana (Andrew) Nickeson, Diane (Sean) Willeford. Stepchildren; Laura (Michael) Grueneberg and Angie Haaland. Grandchildren; Michael and Alexys Grosz; Brandon Lindquist; Hunter and Nickey Davis, Connor, Kelsey and Abigail Nickeson; Preston and Brock Edwards, Madison and Caleb Willford; Marcus, Lucus, Mikhal, and Matthias Grueneberg; Anna, Emma, Thomas, Sophia, and Evalyn Haaland.

Celebration of life will be January 29, 2024.
