Michael “Mick” Allan Johnson

Aug. 8, 1953-May 21, 2023

Minot

Michael Allan Johnson, 69, Minot, left this world on Sunday, May 21, 2023 peacefully in his home surrounded by his wife Patty and daughters Amy and Ivy.

If anyone would have asked Mick to describe himself he would have said, “I’m a simple guy.” Though he may have claimed to be a simple man, his impact on the world around him was anything but ordinary. Mick possessed a quiet strength that resonated with others and he certainly didn’t know how to love simply. Mick was a man that loved fiercely, freely, and fully. His presence brightened every room he entered. With his warm smile, quick wit, and unassuming demeanor, he had a way of making everyone feel valued and loved. His kindness knew no bounds, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand or offer words of encouragement to those in need. It didn’t take much to put a smile on his face-just time with family, friends, his dog Bennie, and a cold Bud Light after a long day.

Mick was born on August 8th, 1953 in Minot to Bennie and Betty Ann (Halvorson) Johnson and was raised in Surrey, ND as the oldest of 8 children. He was raised and educated in Surrey, graduating in 1971.

On July 25, 1975, Mick was united in marriage to Darla Beeter with whom he had his two beloved daughters, Amy and Ivy. The couple later divorced.

Mick’s work ethic was like no other, first learning the value of hard work on his grandparent’s farm in Wildrose, during his summer months of high school. He also worked at Great Plains Supply, Quality Construction, and Farstad Oil, where he worked for over 30 years until his retirement.

On May 24, 2019, Mick was united in marriage to Patty Michaelson in Minot. They made their home in Minot, where together they enjoyed going on Harley and side-by-side rides, gardening, spending time with friends and family, and enjoying time at home with their beloved dog, Bennie.

Mick’s greatest source of pride and joy was his role as a dad and grandpa. Mick’s unwavering love for his children, and his six grandchildren, was a testament to his character. He will be remembered for all the heart he showed and the love he shared with his family and friends. He truly loved each of them, and if you knew him, you knew it.

Mick is survived by his wife Patty Michaelson, Minot; daughters: Amy (Rick) Hollar, Bismarck, and Ivy (Brad) Maus, Golva; grandchildren: Madison (Kyle Sarsland) Schantz, Golva, Brooke Hollar, Sadie Hollar, both of Bismarck, ND, Blake Maus, Kenley Maus, and Brexten Maus, Golva; siblings: Vern (Lori) Johnson, Minot, Tim Johnson, Fargo, Judy (Glenn) Weishaar, Minot, Bruce ( Sheila) Johnson, Williston, Kristie (John) Baker, Melbourne, FL, Heidi (Todd) Newbury, Minot, Tammy Johnson, Minot; in-laws: Barb (Greg) Bickler, Sun City West, AZ, Teresa (Perry) Barone, Mandan, Michele (Steve) Arnold, Bismarck, Karla Michaelson, Carrington, Monica (Alan) Effertz, Velva, Diane Michaelson, Eden Prairie, MN, Curt (Mary) Michaelson, Beulah, Dave (Shelly) Michaelson, Dickinson, Tim (Kari) Michaelson, Enderlin, Chuck (Dana) Michaelson Bismarck; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
