Velda Glick, 85, Minot, died Thursday, April 6, 2023 in a Medina, MN assisted living center.

Velda Miller was born April 14, 1937 in Elkhart, IN to Jason and Leona (Cockley) Miller. She lived her childhood years in Elkhart. In July 1954, she met John Glick during a visit to Minot, North Dakota. They both attended Hesston (KS) Academy that fall, and began dating in December. Velda was engaged to John on September 23, 1955.

Velda and John were united in marriage on June 6, 1957 in Elkhart, IN. They shared 54 years of life together. Velda and John lived in West Liberty, OH from 1959 until 1961. In 1961, Velda and John moved to the Glick family dairy farm east of Minot. Velda lived on the farm for the next 58 years.

During this time, she raised her family of 6 children, was an active member of both Fairview Mennonite Church in Surrey, ND and later Zion Lutheran Church in Minot. She grew a large garden and enjoyed camping with her family. Along with raising the family, Velda and John enjoyed hosting several international exchange students and four Polish agricultural trainees. When her youngest child began elementary school, Velda enrolled at Minot State University and obtained her teaching degree. She taught first, second and sixth grade classrooms at Nedrose School east of Minot for a total of 21 years, during which her students included some of her grandchildren, retiring in 2002.

Velda was an extraordinary cook and baker, avid reader, skilled at crossword puzzles and a very competitive Scrabble player. She was best known as a talented musician and served as organist and pianist at Zion Lutheran while attending there. She also shared her musical gifts for many weddings and funerals and at area care facilities in the Minot area and was a member of the Voices of Note Women’s Chorus. At Zion, Velda participated in Hannah’s Circle, quilting, and sewing ministry, home communion ministry and was a Hostfest volunteer. She also volunteered at the Scandinavian Heritage Park and Trinity Guest House.

She is survived by her sons, Arden (Kari) Glick, Minot and Brian Glick, Harrisonburg, VA; daughters, Jane (Dan) Doty, Durango, CO, Maria Glick (Christoph Muellner), Linz, Austria, Melanie Clay, Daly City, CA and Heidi (Donald) Droegemueller, Minnetonka, MN; grandchildren, Jessi (Bryan) Swang, Jenni (Michael) Beadle, Jami (Chris) Sison, Sage Mari, William Droegemueller and Henry Droegemueller; great-grandchildren, Kaden Sison, Kynleigh Sison, Colin Beadle and Andrew Beadle; brothers, Marvin Miller and David Miller.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Jason and Leona; son, Roger; daughter, Jill; and sister, Mary Alice.

Visitation: Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Funeral Service: Friday, April 14, 2023 at 11 am at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot. The service will be livestreamed and may be accessed at https://zionlutheranminot.org/ .

Burial: Fairview Cemetery, rural Surrey, ND in the spring of 2023.
