Volk, 94, Sherwood, died
Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017,
at a Kenmare hospital.
He was born Feb. 28,
1923, on the family farm
west of Sherwood, to John
and Caroline (Schiffman)
Volk. He was raised on
the family farm, attended
North Prosperity Town-
ship School and graduat-
ed from Sherwood High
School in 1941.
Leo married Janice
Grengs on Nov. 15, 1948,
at St. James Catholic
Church, Sherwood. They
farmed, ranched and
raised horses in Prosperi-
ty and Colquhoun Town-
ships of Renville County.
They moved into Sher-
wood in 1983 and he re-
tired from farming in
1987.
Leo was a member of
St. James Catholic
Church, Sherwood, and
was a charter member of
the St. James Parish Coun-
cil. He served as the Pros-
perity Township Asses-
sor, served on the Sher-
wood Union Cemetery
Board and was a member
of Farmers Union and the
Border Saddle Club. Leo
and Janice spent many
winters down south.
He loved hunting, fish-
ing, and had excellent aim
with a slingshot. He en-
joyed watching sporting
events, especially base-
ball. He enjoyed garden-
ing, bowling, and danc-
ing; he and Janice were
members of a square
dancing club.

years, Janice Volk, Sher-
wood; children, Terrence
(Dianne) Volk, Bottineau,
Jeffrey (Joel) Volk, Sher-
wood, Ronald Volk, Sher-
wood, John (Vickie) Volk,
Baldwin; 14 grandchil-
dren and 13
great-grandchildren; and
numerous nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Leo was preceded in
death by: his parents;
daughter-in-law, Diane
Volk; brothers, Celestine,
Philip and Joseph Volk;
and sister, Agnes Zelt-
inger Avery.
Funeral: 10:30 a.m.,
Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, at
St. James Catholic
Church, Sherwood.
Burial: Sherwood Un-
ion Cemetery, Sherwood.
Recitation of the
Rosary: 7 p.m., Monday,
Aug. 14, 2017, at the
church.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m.,
at the church.
