International Music Camp, Army band performances set

DUNSEITH – The 70th season of the International Music Camp began Sunday, June 14, with its first session for middle school art, band and choir.

On Saturday, June 20, the Middle School Art program will have an exhibition from 12:30-3 p.m. in the Masonic Auditorium. The two Middle School Bands and the Middle School Choir perform at 1:30 p.m. in the Masonic Auditorium. The art exhibition and concerts are free and open to the public.

This season IMC is welcoming more than 1,400 students from 12 countries, 19 American states and six Canadian provinces, with additional students registering daily.

The Session One Festival of the Arts performance on Friday, June 19, will feature the North Dakota National Guard 188th Army Band. The 188th Army Band is a traditional North Dakota National Guard unit. The unit regularly drills and assisted with the North Dakota floods of 2009 and 2011.

The 188th Army Band regularly performs in North Dakota and has traveled extensively to places including Australia, Jamaica, Germany and across the United States. All members of the unit attend the Army School of Music, which is located near Virginia Beach, Virginia.

All events at the International Music Camp are subject to the International Peace Garden gate fee. Passports are not required to get in and out of the International Peace Garden but are the recommended form of identification. Without a passport, visitors need a birth certificate for everyone in the vehicle and photo IDs for those 16 and older to return to the country of origin upon leaving music camp and the Peace Garden.
