CARPIO – An 84-year-old Carpio man has died after being struck by a train on U.S. Highway 52 about a mile and half northwest of Carpio Sunday.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 1 p.m. The operator of a southbound CPKC train operator observed a tractor near the tracks about a half-mile ahead and saw a man standing on the side of the tracks. The operator sounded the horn but the train reportedly struck the man, resulting in fatal injuries. The pedestrian’s name will be released after notification of next of kin.
