Minot 4-H archery shoot gets bigger, better

Archer Olivia Michel focuses on her target down the line during the Northwest Archery Match in Minot.

4-H youth from 23 North Dakota counties recently attended the Northwest District Archery Match, hosted by Ward County 4-H Shooting Sports and held in Minot.

There were 266 youth in attendance at the Feb. 10 event at the N.D. State Fairgrounds, with 49 from Ward County. Ward County hosted the match last year and saw a growth of 43 more youth attending the match this year.

Indoor archery matches are grouped by age and bow type. Ages are Beginner (eight-10 years old), Junior (11-13), and Senior (14-18). There is also a Masters division for those at least 14 years old and have qualified for a national contest in their age and bow division. The bow divisions are Barebow, which has no sights or releases on the bow and Freestyle, which holds either a sight or a release.
