Sentinels boys golf team gets first win at Bakken Classic

In the second season of varsity play, the Minot North boys golf team had their first win at the 12 team Bakken Classic.

Playing in Watford City at the Fox Hills golf course, the Sentinels shot a 286 to defeat Bismarck Century who placed second with a score of 299 at the event. Bismarck St. Mary’s finished in third place with a score of 302 in the event that initially was supposed to be a 36-hole meet and was scaled back to 18-holes due to weather.

The Minot North team of Tyler Bast shot 69, Kasen Rostad shot 71, Walter Langhans shot 73 and Bennett Bartsch also shot a 73 at the shortened event.

Minot North used the Bakken to swap spots with Century who took first place Saturday, April 20, at the Jamestown invite where the Sentinels scored a 330 for second place and the Patriots team shot a 323 for the top spot.

At the Jamestown Invite, Bartsch, Bast, Rostad and Langhans were joined by Kyler Weishaar and Teegan Gangel as the Sentinels showcased their depth. At the Century Invitational, played Friday, April 12, at the Tom O’Leary golf course,

Minot North also placed second with a 304, again chasing Century with a 296 score for the win. Bartsch, Rostad, Bast, Langhans, Weishaar and Dangel played in that initial contest of the season.

Next up for the Sentinels is the Bismarck Invitational on Tuesday, April 30, followed by the Minot Invitational on Friday, May 3, at the Souris Valley golf course.
