NEW TOWN — Eighty-two jumpers took the plunge into the icy water of Lake Sakakawea, west of New Town, on Thursday, also Leap Day, during the 8th Annual MHA Nation Ice Warrior Plunge.

The plunge is an annual event to raise funds to benefit the American Indian Cancer Foundation and Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Cancer Fund.

As of Friday, Lovell Overlie, a spokesperson for the Office of Mark Fox, chairman of the MHA Nation, said, “We are currently at nearly $67,000 for the amount pledged with funds still coming in.”

Individuals and businesses take part in the plunge to raise awareness and help raise funds.
