City council member makes bid for reelection

Scott Burlingame

Minot City Council member Scott Burlingame has formally announced his candidacy for reelection, stating he will continue efforts to serve the community and advance the city’s interests.

Having been elected to fill an unexpired term on City Council in November 2022, Burlingame has promoted initiatives aimed at improving childcare services and fostering a stronger sense of community cohesion.

Burlingame said his emphasis has been to eschew traditional politics and instead be a voice of positivity and unity in a political landscape often marred by division. He said has sought to foster community engagement and ensure every voice is heard and valued.

“It has been an honor to work alongside the residents of Minot, and I am deeply grateful for the progress we have achieved together. However, the work is not done. We have real problems facing this city, including a childcare crisis, a housing shortage and the ongoing costs associated with flood control. I look forward to bringing people together to face the challenges that lie ahead,” he said.

He pledged to continue advocating for infrastructure improvement, support for local businesses and enhancement of public safety measures.

Burlingame has been the executive director of Independence Inc., a resource center for independent living in Minot, for 13 years and he has worked in the disability rights movement for 23 years. He was appointed by the governor to serve on the State Independent Living Council, the state Olmstead Commission and the State Rehabilitation Council. He has served on numerous other local, statewide, and national nonprofit boards.
