State Supreme Court rejects murderer Omar Kalmio’s second appeal

The State Supreme Court has rejected another appeal from convicted murderer Omar Mohamed Kalmio, who had been seeking post-conviction relief.

The justices ruled that Kalmio filed his appeal too late, more than two years after final judgment was issued in his criminal case. The justices also ruled the district court’s ruling that Kalmio had not presented any new evidence in the case was not in error.

Kalmio was convicted in 2013 of murdering his girlfriend Sabrina Zephier, 19; Sabrina’s brother, Dylan Zephier, 13; their mother, Jolene Zephier, 38, and Jolene’s boyfriend, Jeremy Longie, 22, in Minot on Jan. 28, 2011. He is serving four consecutive life sentences in the state penitentiary.
