Former motel vacated, to be secured

The former Fairview Motel has been vacated and will be secured, First District Health Unit reported Wednesday.

Last week, the health unit had ordered people living at the deteriorating motel to vacate by July 10 due to health concerns related to lack of water service and reported sewage issues. The City of Minot also found the building to be out of compliance with zoning code in its use as apartments.

Lisa Clute, executive director for First District, said an inspection Wednesday found only one resident in the building. Police assisted the individual to go where he wished to go, she said.

“It’s up to the owner to secure the building,” Clute said. “We are working with them to get that done. We will continue to follow up until that building is secured.”
