The Shrine Circus brings another year of magical entertainment

Eloise Ogden/MDN Ken Gillespie aka “Dizzy the Clown” says the Minot Shrine Circus will be “filled with magic.” The circus will be held in the All Seasons Arena on the North Dakota State Fairgrounds in Minot May 9-11.

The circus is coming to town. The Minot Shrine Circus will fill the All Seasons Arena on May 9, 10 and 11 to put on a show for all ages with acts provided by the Jordan World Circus from Las Vegas.

Each day will feature different time options to give people as many chances to witness the magical performances being offered. On May 9, audiences can fill the stands at 10 a.m. or 7 p.m. May 10 will feature three shows at 10 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and May 11 will close out the fair with two performances, one at 2 p.m. and the final at 6 p.m.

“It will be filled with magic that will blow your mind,” said Ken Gillespie, a member of the Shrine Circus as Dizzy the Clown.

Each show will have two parts with an intermission between. A long list of acts is expected from trapeze artists to clowns to elephants and lions to jugglers to hula hoopers to motorcycles and beyond.

“It’s a very family friendly show. Almost all the performers are family,” said Gillespie.

One performer of the Jordan World Circus is a North Dakota native. Adam Burck was born in Turtle Lake, according to Gillespie, and is now the lion tamer for the circus. He will be returning this year with his lions to wow audiences in his home state.

The Shrine Circus will feature familiar acts that engage people yearly, but this year will also feature an all new act: “Bee” the Transforming Robot. Changing from car to tall robot, the act will give fans the chance to see a real ‘Transformer.’

Tickets for the Shrine Circus can be purchased at White Drug in the Town and Country Shopping Center, all MarketPlace Foods, the Minot Air Force Base ITT, Stop and Shop, and Lien’s Jewelry.

When purchasing tickets in advance at merchant locations, adult tickets will cost $11, junior and senior high students will cost $10, Senior citizens will cost $10 and children K through sixth grade will cost $6. Preschool children are free.

When purchased at the door, tickets will cost an extra dollar.

“We’re very thankful for the merchants of Minot,” Gillespie said, “who help the Shriners by buying books of tickets.”

Many merchants will purchase books of tickets to be handed out to children in schools for free to attend one of the performances.
