Free suicide alertness training set in Minot
FirstLink is offering a free safeTALK Suicide Alertness Training in Minot.
The training will be Friday, June 5, from 1-4 p.m. in Minot Public Library, 516 2nd Ave. SW
safeTALK is a basic, three-hour suicide awareness training that prepares anyone age 15 and older to become a suicide-alert helper. Participants learn how to recognize when someone may be struggling with thoughts of suicide, ask clearly and directly about suicide, listen with care and connect the person to life-saving support.
By the end of the training, participants will be better able to:
– Challenge attitudes that may get in the way of open talk about suicide.
– Recognize a person who may be having thoughts of suicide.
– Ask clearly and directly about thoughts of suicide.
– Listen in a way that shows the person’s feelings are taken seriously.
– Move quickly to connect the person with someone trained in suicide intervention.
North Dakota Social Work Continuing Education Units have been approved for three regular hours. CEUs also also available for N.D. Law Enforcement, nurses and EMS.
