The State Auditor’s Office has begun an audit of the Turtle Mountain Community Schools in Belcourt.

According to a press release from the office, the audit was requested by a citizen in the school district.

“My office will conduct an audit of the financial records of Belcourt Public Schools,” said State Auditor Joshua Gallion in the press release. “As part of that audit, we will report any identified deficiencies in the School District’s financial and accounting practices. I take the efforts from citizens initiating this review seriously and appreciate their engagement.”

“I have no comment,” said Lana DeCoteau, Superintendent of the Turtle Mountain Community Schools in Belcourt, when the Minot Daily News contacted her on Monday afternoon.

According to the press release, it takes at least 195 valid signatures on a petition to begin the audit process in a political subdivision.
