Men’s Winter Refuge seeks volunteer nurse

The Men’s Winter Refuge is seeking a licensed nurse who is available to volunteer four to five hours per week at the men’s homeless shelter. The shelter is open for six months, from Nov. 1 to April 30. Duties would include giving breathalyzer tests and doing intake interviews with new residents with an occasional follow-up interview. Hours would be in the evening, roughly between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. People who are interested or who would like more information are asked to contact either of the current volunteer nurses, Evie Probst, at 537-4032, or Nancy Vitko, at 720-9498.

First Baptist Church XYZ to meet Sept. 20

First Baptist Church XYZ, a non-denominational adult ministry for people in the 50-plus age group, will meet Sept. 20 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist. Dan and Andrea Klingbeil and Dean and Esther Redington will present the program “The Splendors of Italy.” Refreshments will be served.

Bazaar auction to be held Sept. 30 at Rose Valley Lutheran

Rose Valley Lutheran Church, rural Des Lacs, will hold its 33rd annual bazaar auction Sunday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. There will be homemade crafts and baked items. Dessert and coffee will be served following the auction.

Our personal focus and life in the church

We were focused on a basement remodeling project hoping to finish one part that evening when a neighbor ran into the house saying that one of our children had been hurt. Our focus shifted completely since no piece of sheetrock was as important as seeing that our child was tended to. We were enjoying a sunny winter afternoon of sledding when it became apparent that one of our children had veered off course and was headed for a lamp pole.
