Pope defrocks Chilean priest at center of abuse scandal

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis has defrocked a Chilean priest who was a central character in the global sex abuse scandal rocking his papacy, invoking his "supreme" authority to stiffen an earlier sentence because of the "exceptional amount of damage" the priest's crimes had caused. Installation service for Rev. Dr. Richard Davis at Our Savior Lutheran

A special installation service is planned for Sunday, Sept. 23 at 4 p.m. in the Sanctuary at Our Savior Lutheran Church, located at 3705 11th Street SW in Minot. The Rev. Dr. Richard Davis will be installed as Intentional Interim Minister for Our Savior Lutheran Church. Following the service will be a potluck. Attendees are asked to bring a favorite dish to share and to put a “GF” on it if the dish is gluten free.

A Respect Life Fair and free will offering breakfast will be held Sunday, Oct. 7, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 707 16th Ave SW, Minot. India bans instant divorce by Muslim men

NEW DELHI (AP) — India's government on Wednesday approved an ordinance to implement a top court ruling striking down the Muslim practice that allows men to instantly divorce. The government decision came after it failed to get approval from Parliament a year after the court ruled that the practice of allowing men to divorce by simply uttering the Arabic word for divorce — "talaq" — three times violated the constitutional rights of Muslim women.
