State program teaches preserving personal photographs

BISMARCK — The North Dakota State Archives will offer “Preserving Your Photographs,” a free educational program focused on caring for and preserving personal photograph collections. The virtual and in-person program is recommended for ages 10 and older. Photo Archivist Matt Ely will provide practical guidance on identifying common preservation issues and protecting photographs for long-term care. Tentative 2026 season opening dates

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department annually provides its best estimate for opening dates to help hunters prepare for hunting seasons. Hunters should note the opening date for the regular waterfowl season is still under discussion. Dates become official when approved by the governor’s proclamation. The North Dakota Game and Fish Department’s annual Earth Day Patch Contest is an effort to heighten awareness about the environment. Students who participate will develop a patch design using five colors incorporating an aspect of Earth Day, such as environmental awareness, respect Earth, water quality, wildlife or habitat conservation in North Dakota. The contest is open to students in grades K-12. Winners are chosen from four grade categories (K-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12). Oil, gas lease sales generate $8 million-plus in revenue

BILLINGS, Mont. — The Bureau of Land Management announced it has leased 19 parcels totaling 4,116 acres in Montana and North Dakota for more than $8.65 million in total receipts during a quarterly oil and gas lease sale. Combined lease bonus bids and rentals are distributed between the federal government and state where parcels are located.
